Talkin’ Science – Week 31 2019

In A Trekzone Conversation

Direct from Waikiki and a day early, I’m checking in with Brad to catch the latest space and science news.

Couple of interesting ones today, with Lightsail 2 embarking on an expedition of discovery to learn about solar photons – molecules that have no mass, but do have momentum. With each orbit of the Earth, the satellite is absorbing the photons, speeding up and gaining altitude. Meanwhile, the French Government has decided to join Trump’s way of thinking and are planning a space force to protect their national interests in space… and the entire planet just got ‘buzzed’ by a 100-metre wide asteroid, it passed within 70,000 km’s – which is closer than the moon!
