Space Law – What Is It? And Do We Need It?

Space Law is essentially a treaty agreed upon back when the race to the moon was a hot button issue. Since then it’s sat on a shelf and largely been ignored. However, in today’s climate of private ventures to space, lunar and Martian colonisation on the horizon plus asteroid mining no longer a figment of science fiction imagination, experts have discovered that it’s struggling to keep pace with these changes. Experts like Dr Imogen Saunders are working to come up with a new framework before it’s needed.

Today, we look at the topic broadly as well as specific examples, including President Trump’s Space Force and the astronaut accused of illegally accessing financial records from the Space Station!
