Synopsis

Lwaxana Troi visits the Enterprise as she teaches the telepathic Cairn to speak for the first time. As the teaching experience intensifies it forces the Betazoid to remember a dark secret she has long since buried…

The Trekzone Review

A character that’s visited us so often throughout the seven years and been a comical diversion is the perfect person to suffer a significant shift in what we know about them because we’ll care so much more about them.

Mrs. Troi was a perfect fit for this… and, along with another episode in DS9’s third season, this episode hits home for many people who have suffered a significant loss and Majel plays her character so well. This episode puts all of her previous joyous visits to the ship into a very different light, one where she tried so hard to be happy and forget the bad time.

There is no happy ending here, no gallivanting off to the next adventure… for Lwaxana only time and working through the pain will make her feel better. I’m not going to lie, there was something in my eye at the end there.
