While on a mission, Lorca unexpectedly finds himself in the company of prisoner of war, Lieutenant Ash Tyler and notorious intergalactic criminal, Harry Mudd. Meanwhile, Burnham voices her concerns about the repercussions of the spore drive jumps on “Ripper”.
Wowee, such an amount of angst about one simple word that has become part of the global vernacular - for better or for worse. If you are reading this, you are interested in my opinion and it is this: Tilly dropped the word as a faux par, given that she apologised for it straight away. Staments' affirmation of the situation though provides an insight into the vocabulary still in use in the 23rd century.

Elsewhere, we are given our first hint as to why this super-awesome go-anywhere Spore Drive is a fizzle in the pan for Discovery... and it pays homage to the Voyager season five ender / season six premiere - Equinox. Is it right to kill a non humanoid creature just for the luxury of going anywhere fast? And with Staments injecting himself with the gene-altering compound, will we see him suffer deliterious effects too?

Meanwhile, Lorca meets Mudd and we complete our ensemble cast with Lieutenant Tyler found after seven months in captivity, are we going to confront the abundance of issues that are bound to be simmering below the surface of this officer?
