When the Enterprise visits an outpost whose scientists are in the process of terraforming, they find the team threatened by a mysterious new form of life.
Watching these early episodes once again, for only the second or third time now, means that I'm enjoying them - and even more so when they look so "fresh." The cold open in this episode had me hooked... what is it that this terraformer is hiding? Why do we never hear from "terraform command" again? This episode takes us into the question of what constitutes life?

Mullet's make an appearance in this episode, but it doesn't feel out of place in what is now not so much an 80's series. This is the first episode with Majel Barrett as the computer voice, and I'll ask again - who exactly is in charge of Engineering!?

So this life form is a colony of single celled organisms... which is now exactly what scientists are looking for on Jupiter's moon Io.
