Discovering an alien communications network that stretches all the way to the outer edges of the Alpha Quadrant, the Doctor is transmitted to a Starfleet ship on a deep space assignment...
'It's a Starfleet vessel.' Those were the final words uttered before the opening titles, signalling a changing of the tone of the whole series, from this episode on Voyager isn't alone... our crew's mission, their purpose, is to get home and that is certainly achievable now that Starfleet knows they are alive and well.

Andy Dick and Bob Picardo a perfect pairing of actors with some great off-the-cuff moments.

It will still be two more years before regular contact with home can be established, but this episode gave hope to the hundred and thirty odd crew members that they may just reach the Alpha Quadrant in their lifetime. It also provides a gut punch to the Maquis members who receive word that all of their friends and colleagues have been killed.
