A New Trek TV Series?
TREKZONE.org Investigation
October 15 2013
Piqued by this tweet I read three days ago, I've been trying to follow it up and get leads myself. Until this afternoon, my time, Joe was going to join me for a quick chat about this news and possibly more of what Robert said to him. But his work commitments with Sky News have procluded that from happening. I have also directed a query to Robert Orci's publicist who has told me that he is not taking interviews at this time.

His publicist also said quote "Untrue" to my direct question about the rumour that he had approached CBS to put together a new Star Trek TV series. I am still trying to interview Robert directly though. What exactly is the "on song" message? Is it being kept under wraps until plans can be worked out? Is the possible series going to continue to stick the middle finger up at the fans?

Opinion is divided on this topic too... while every Trekkie I know, myself included, would love to see a new series hit the airwaves - quite a few, including Larry Nemecek, have expressed concern as to the subject matter of that series would be. After watching numerous TNG BluRay extras and reading this article published last month on Hollywood.com, they really sum up my feelings towards the franchise at the moment.

It was always about the fans... the fans drew The Original Series back from cancellation in the late 60's, the fans went to the movies and spent enough money to warrant The Next Generation and the three incarnations that followed. Some fans even became writers and producers on the show after submissions... something which is missing now.

And then there is the model and precedent that Marvel Comics is creating... why can they create a niche product for all those adoring comic book fans (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and all the movies released and ones that are coming) but Paramount insists on making Star Trek "mainstream"? Why must J.J. rehash classic, dare I say even cult, movies just to appease to the masses? (I'll address this more in my reviews of the two not-movies.)

Hit me up on Twitter or Facebook with your thoughts on this. What do YOU want to see in a Trek TV series? Who should helm it?

And even... Did Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, Jeri Taylor and Ira Steven Behr hold true to Gene's vision of the future? I want your thoughts!
