We’ve waited 37 months … but finally we are just a handful (and a bit) days away from the return
Voyager responds to a distress call from a prison transport ship, but when the crew realise that the inmates will be executed they begin to question the validity of their legal system.
That’s right folks, we’ve got just enough time to squeeze in a lesson about the death penalty, bigotry and racism. Although this episode handled the complex issues with some ingenuity and all isn’t as we’d assumed it was – the so called innocent victim just because he’s Benkaran is actually just as guilty as the rest of the prisoners… and this time around the defense of ‘not guilty by reason of mental insanity’ didn’t work and the callous killer who grew a conscious was executed.
It’s not often Star Trek’s alien of the week follows through with their ‘barbaric ways’ once our crew have meddled in their affairs, so it was a refreshing change of pace (as morbid as that is with a character dead…)
