The Trekzone Review
Wowee!! I’m super excited to have seen this episode again! I think this makes only two or three times that I’ve seen the original original pilot and despite all it’s differences from the rest of the series it is still a solid outing in the universe of Star Trek. Not only that, but in episode 16 it actually becomes cannon (technically it wouldn’t have been as it never went to air in the original run.)
A few things I’m glad Gene changed for the second pilot – the gooseneck devices on the bridge conn station, dropping the “Mister” from Spock and bringing in McCoy as CMO. William Shatner was a nice change, but not a vast improvement I don’t think.
As for dropping Number One, well that just sums up the era this was made doesn’t it? (Although, Gene still stuck it to the network by adding in Uhura!)
Lets go boldly into THE ORIGINAL SERIES…!
