Former Bajoran terrorist Tahna Los seeks help from Major Kira. Meanwhile, two familiar Klingon women arrive on the station…
Episode two of Deep Space Nine and already we’re into character building. It’s what made this show great in my opinion – and for others was the downside. I think Kira was the most deserving of some immediate character development, and sows some seeds of just how xenophobic some Bajorans are…
We open in the replimat as Doctor “I need a better personality” Bashir is eating. Plain, Simple Garak arrives and begins to torment our dear doctor. After having his fun, Garak leaves as simply and slowly as he enters… the look on Bashir’s face says it all.
Cut to Ops where Bashir is telling everyone about his encounter just before. Thankfully he’s interrupted by the alarming bleeps of Kira’s console who tells us that a small vessel is trying to evade a Cardassian warship.
Identifying the vessel as Bajoran, and that they’ve crossed the border… Sisko tries to talk down the Cardies to no avail. O’Brien manages to beam out the occupant before the ship explodes. A man named Tahna Los, an old friend of Kira’s, materialises on the transporter pad (very convenient to put that in Ops…) and seeks aslyum before passing out.
Sisko and Kira meet Tahna in the infirmary and Dax keeps the Cardassian ship busy with all of the docking procedures But after being curtly dismissed from the infirmary Kira jumps onto the subspace comm to Admiral Roland.
Sisko returns to Ops and O’Brien tells him about the care Cardassians give their prisoners… interrupted by Admiral Roland who serves Sisko for an out-of-control liason officer.
Shortly after, the Cardassian Captain – now finally on the station – speaks to Sisko in his office… and a nice piece of banter ensues about tourism and docking procedures. Ending with Sisko muting the entire process by saying he will grant asylum.
As Tahna convinces Kira he’s finished with the Kohn Mar, two loveable Klingon sisters beat up a few guards on the Promenade… Lursa and Be’tor are here.
After a stoush with Odo (he wins btw…) the sisters make head to Quarks where Garak and Bashir watch them. In a very subtle way Garak tries to school Bashir with observation. (Not quite sure if he gets it…)
The Duras sisters leave the bar for a secret meeting with Tahna Los in a cargo bay… and we watch it from the POV of a Vole… who morphs into Odo. dun dun dunnnn.
Back in Ops Kira tells Sisko she has managed to get a hearing together to formally hear Tahno’s plea for asylum and that two more members of the Kohn Mar are coming to the station soon. After a bit of tit for tat, Sisko gets a slam dunk as he looks down at Kira and tells her not to go over his head again.
The sisters meet with Garak in his shop and offer to give the Cardassian Tahna once their business is done. Back to Kira and Los in his quarters… she learns the truth behind what he’s planning and that he’s really not done being a terrorist (err… freedom fighter.)
Meanwhile Bashir is invited by Garak to his shop tonight, at a very specific time. Still so wet behind the ears the good doctor doesn’t understand why… it’s only after a chat with Sisko that he agrees to go.
In Odo’s office, Kira is pouring her heart out… the first signs that these two have a great backstory, one that we will learn more about. After a couple of brooding minutes, Odo invites Sisko to hear the truth.
Bashir arrives late to Garak’s shop and is hurredly ushered into a fitting room, where he listens to a conversation between the Klingon sisters and the “tailor”… he learns what their role in this is…
In Ops the team arrange a trap for Los, Kira agreeing to “steal” a runabout and join Tahna, while Sisko and O’Brien follow them to the moons of Bajor. After an exchange with Lursa and Be’tor, where Tahna gets the final components to a bomb, he orders Kira to the wormhole.
Destroying it’s entrance will destroy outsiders interest in this sector, apparently…
After Kira rocks the boat and sends them to the Gamma Quadrant, Tahna is overpowered and arrested… but once everyone’s back at the station he calls Kira a traitor and is marched off by security.
Hold on Kira as she realises everything isn’t black and white anymore… AND END.
