Dissecting Chandrayaan-2’s Hard Landing

India's lunar lander suffers a hard landing as Mt Stromlo gets a communications boost with a world first Quantum Optical Ground Station set to be built!

India’s lunar lander – Vikram – and it’s rover, may have joined the fate of the Israeli spacecraft Beresheet which crash landed on the surface back in April. However, there are promising signs that all may not be lost with the surface craft. The sub continent’s space agency is also buoyed by the orbiters stable orbit which it says carries the majority of the experiments.

Meanwhile west of Canberra, the CSIRO’s Mt Stromlo Observatory is about to lead the charge in space communications when a world first Quantum Optical Ground Station is built at the site. Brad’s work is set to become a leading example of how to establish high speed data links possibly up to the moon!
