With Star Trek: Picard smashing CBS All Access streaming records, just as Discovery did in 2017, it was inevitable that the Star Trek universe was going to keep on growing. With Lower Decks gearing up for a premiere on Nickelodeon, Bob Bakish – ViacomCBS CEO – confirmed that they will be extending our beloved science fiction franchise “across the house.”
This includes a new feature film and Picard books from Simon & Schuster, however on the earnings call to investors on Thursday Bakish also alluded to two series in development “one for All Access and one for Nickelodeon.” This could either be the Section 31 show (the first sign of progression on this story idea) or Discovery’s third season, as well as Lower Decks which is set to premiere on the kids tv network this year.
