NASA’s Insight lander on Mars ran into a problem a few months back after launching it’s Mole module – a drill aiming to dig into the Martian surface to unlock some secrets – and the problems arose when the soil was clumpier than thought. After trying software fixes, engineers decided a “technical tap” was needed and they used a scoop to dislodge the drill bit.
