We knew Alex Kurtzman had inked a five year deal to create more Star Trek, but we had no idea one of the series was going to be animated!
This is exciting, and it follows the news of Sir Patrick Stewart’s imminent return as Jean-Luc Picard in his own series… Short Treks AND Star Trek: Discovery.
Variety reports that “Rick and Morty” writer Mike McMahan will develop the series which will focus on the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least important ships.
New production arm CBS Eye Animation will produce the series along with Kurtzman’s production company Secret hideout and Rod Roddenberry’s Roddenberry Entertainment.
This’ll be the first animated series for CBS All Access… no word yet on “rest of world” rights.
