Star Trek: Discovery has been given permission to launch into the CBS Fall calendar and the press tour has begun, with several articles on EW being penned detailing more about the first TV Trek in 13 years.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly show runners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg explained that the delays involved getting the sets, props and costumes made from scratch including flying the costume designer to Switzerland to pick up material for the uniforms, as well as 3D printing some other elements of the design.
Harberts and Berg also responded to numerous critics who complained about the style of the bridge shown in the recently released trailer, they say that wasn’t the ‘hero’ ship Discovery which will be different, that bridge was the U.S.S. Shenzhou which will also play a role in the series.
Meanwhile, Sonequa Martin-Green has also spoken to Entertainment Weekly describing her character – first officer Michael Burnham of the Shenzhou. She explains that there is a connection to Vulcan Ambassador Sarek and she is the first full blooded human “to attend the Vulcan Learning Center as a child and then the Vulcan Science Academy as a young woman.”
The series will be released in two chapters for all markets with CBS All Access running the series from September 24 to November 5 and on Netflix a day later, from September 25 to November 6. At this stage no firm date is set for the second chapter, except “in January 2018.”
