NYCC: Discovery Season 3 – Trailer; Short Treks And A 900 Year Jump

We've finally got some Discovery season three. New York Comic Con was the place to be Saturday for your fill of Star Trek news!

Star Trek’s panels at New York Comic Con kicked off on Saturday afternoon with Alex Kurtzman, writer Michelle Paradise, new actor David Ajala, Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp, Mary Wiseman, and Wilson Cruz taking the stage.

While we’re still waiting for the international trailer to drop, US residents got to see the exciting third season come to life in a shiny new trailer. With the proceeding Q&A centered around the stories we’re going to be seeing in the forthcoming season – Alex Kurtzman assuaging some fans’ concerns by saying that season three wouldn’t break from established Trek canon because of the time jump by nine hundred years.

Season three newcomer David Ajala remarked that his new character, Booker, and Burnham have an “unorthodox” relationship. Meanwhile, Saru actor Doug Jones was asked about his character’s ever-evolving relationship with Burnham, where he noted season three will continue the ups and downs of the brother/sister relationship between the two characters.

Discovery info continued at Paley Fest on Saturday night, with Heath Kadin confirming we’ll see more of the bridge crew this season, and no one’s getting killed off. Sonequa Martin-Green says of new character Cleveland Booker; he represents the future they find themselves in, and he helps Discovery to navigate it. Michelle Paradise confirms that the Federation is challenged, but not gone in the future – dispelling the rumour Lee and Matt discussed in this week’s Talkin’ Trek.

Additionally, in what Trekzone sees as stabilising news, a more regular 13 episodes will make up the third season.

No word yet on a return date.
