A comet fragment has illuminated the Spanish and Portuguese night skies this past weekend
The European Space Agency released video captured by it’s fireball camera, describing the comet fragment as stunning before announcing that it likely burnt up on entry into the atmosphere.
Preliminary analysis revealed the cometary origin, streaking across the atmosphere for five hundred kilometres before burning up at an altitude of around sixty kilometres – about six times higher than a passenger aircraft.
