That’s A Wrap From Vegas

It’s been a helluva of a five day marathon and for the first time in a couple of years I’ve paid close attention to this Vegas convention, keeping up with the news coming out and providing daily recaps on the events that unfolded.

The major talking point of day five was the Disco panel, where Anson Mount, Sonequa Martin Green and Doug Jones discussed the series and the depth that went into creating the first new Trek in almost thirteen years. Doug noted that he was half way through filming Shape of Water when he was beginning to question his stamina of enduring prosthetic make up, but when he was offered Saru he just had to say yes.

Anson Mount recalled growing up watching The Original Series, and he notes that Christopher Pike (his character in season two) has to be the embodiment of optimism, which will be an interesting couter point to the darker narrative that Discovery has been telling. Sonequa informed the audience that she knew the truth about Lorca the whole time because she believed it was crucial to portraying a believable story arc that would hold up on the second viewing.

It was also announced that Discovery will be available for purchase on DVD and BluRay from November 13 in the United States (I’m working to find out if there will be an international release.)

A huge thanks to Trekcore, Treknews.net and Trekmovie.com for their coverage over the week… next year I’ll be there to bring you all the action as part of The Trekzone Plexus.
