The Last Outpost
The Enterprise and a Ferengi ship they are pursuing get stuck in orbit of a planet, which is draining their energy. Challenging the Ferengi Daimon about stolen equipment, Riker finds the thief is a more powerful opponent…
First Contact!! The Ferengi were intended to be this series main enemy, but they just didn’t pan out that way… they were far too comical. Knowing the future of the series, the bridge just seems very cluttered – Worf sitting at Ops, Georgi’s on the bridge (although he took charge of engineering…) The only good thing is that Wesley isn’t on the bridge yet. WHEATON!!!
This episode marks the beginning of the series’ famous conferences… something that would skip Deep Space Nine but come up again in Voyager. Thankfully, all the action outside stops while our senior officers have a chit chat. The floating graphics during Data’s briefing unfortunatley weren’t seen again very often (if at all…?) but it has become the future.
On the planet, interacting with the Portal I couldn’t help but feel like I was back playing A Final Unity…
